Workshop “Strengthening Wildfire Preparedness in the Context of Climate Change – Mapping Risk-Prone Areas”

Location: Sarajevo

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, the first workshop was held as part of the project “Joint action to reduce the increased risk of forest fires for nature and people in the context of climate change in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, titled “𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 – 𝑴𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑹𝒊𝒔𝒌-𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝑨𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔”.

The workshop presented project activities and announced the start of creating the first interactive map of fire susceptibility in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), which will include:

📌 Display of mapped vulnerable areas from the perspective of forest fires throughout BiH,

📌 Categorization based on the degree of vulnerability,

📌 Priorities from the perspective of rehabilitating burned areas.

The existence of such a tool represents a significant contribution to forest fire management in BiH.

The workshop brought together numerous representatives from the various sectors – forestry, nature protection, civil protection, security, and authorities, providing them the opportunity to express their proposals, suggestions, and opinions on data collection methods, issue recognition and ranking, and criteria for multicriteria analysis in map development
